About Gedcom Tree
Gedcom Tree is an independent service built for one specific job: turning a GEDCOM file into a family tree you can actually print and frame.
Why this site exists
Most genealogy software can produce a GEDCOM file, but few make it easy to turn that file directly into a polished, printable image. The file usually stays locked inside the software that created it, viewable on screen, hard to fit on a single page without a spreadsheet or a layout tool.
Gedcom Tree closes that gap with one job: import a GEDCOM and get back a composition ready for paper or a frame. The free preview shows 3 generations with a watermark; the Premium version shows up to 6, watermark-free, in high definition, with 21 different rendering styles, from the classic family certificate to more contemporary or botanical variants.
Who runs this site
Gedcom Tree is published by Frogiciel, the independent business of Loïc François, a developer. The site is designed, built and maintained by one person, with no support team or sales desk: requests go straight through the contact page. Full publisher details are listed in the legal notice.
How your data is handled
The GEDCOM file you upload is used only to generate your tree: it's never republished, indexed, or read by hand. Generated images, free or premium, are removed from the server after 24 hours. Premium payments are processed by Stripe; Gedcom Tree never sees or stores your card details.
No data is ever sold to third parties. Full details, including any cookies set by advertising, are in our privacy policy.
How the tree is built
A GEDCOM file is structured text: each person is an INDI block, each union a FAM block, linked by identifiers like @I1@. Gedcom Tree reads these blocks to reconstruct the parent-child links, walks the generations back from the chosen root person, and draws the composition in the selected style.
Only three things are used per person: the name, the birth date, and the death date if there is one. Places, occupations, photos, notes or sources that may be in the file are not carried into the rendering.
What Gedcom Tree doesn't do
It isn't genealogy software: there's no entering new people, no ancestor search, no multi-user collaboration on a tree. Gedcom Tree starts from a file you've already built and does one thing: turn it into a printable image. Building or completing the tree itself still needs a genealogy program upstream.
The result is also a snapshot frozen at import time: if you add to your tree later in your genealogy software, you'll need to export a fresh GEDCOM file and regenerate a new composition for the additions to show up.
Got a question?
The FAQ answers the most common questions, and the GEDCOM guide covers the file format itself. For anything else, the contact page is the best way to reach us.
