FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The most common questions about Gedcom Tree, beyond the ones already on the home page. To understand the GEDCOM format itself, see our dedicated guide.

Which file formats are accepted?

Gedcom Tree accepts .ged, .gedcom and .txt files exported by genealogy software. Compressed archives (.zip) or a program's proprietary save files aren't supported.

Is there a file size limit?

The service is built for typical family trees, from a few dozen to a few hundred individuals. An extremely large file may be rejected or take longer to analyze.

Is my GEDCOM file kept after generation?

No: the uploaded file is used only to generate your tree. Generated images are automatically deleted from the server after 24 hours, and data tied to a premium order is erased once the HD file has been generated.

Can I choose the tree's root person?

Yes: if your file contains several individuals, Gedcom Tree lets you choose which person the tree is built from.

What's the difference between the free preview and the Premium version?

The free preview shows 3 generations at screen quality, with a watermark. The Premium version unlocks up to 5 generations, no watermark, in print-ready high definition, for a one-time payment.

Can I change the graphic style after uploading?

Yes: several rendering styles are available, and you can switch freely before downloading or buying the Premium version; both previews, free and Premium, update together.

Is the Premium payment secure?

Yes: payment is processed by Stripe, a third-party payment provider. Gedcom Tree never stores your card details.

Can I get a refund?

The HD file is generated immediately after payment. For any issue, the contact page is the best way to reach us.

Does the site work in my language?

Gedcom Tree is available in over twenty languages; the language adapts automatically to your browser, and can be changed at any time from the footer.

How do I contact you?

Through the contact page, for anything not covered here or in the GEDCOM guide.
